- Mechanism: Uses a central cross-pin block, similar to an automotive drive shaft.

- Limited working angles, non-constant velocity (jerky movement at large angles), and a bulky profile unsuitable for tight spaces.
Generation 2: Ball Type Universal Joint (Ball U-Joint / Ball Swivel)
To address the stiff rotation and angle limitations of cross-pins, ball-type structures became widely adopted in the mid-to-late 20th century.
